Aubrey describes himself as someone who loves South Africa and all her people with a passion. “I’m constantly looking for ways to make the diverse peoples of our country find their common humanity, given our complicated past and interesting present,” he says of his work which strives to start conversations among South Africans.
Aubrey was born in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria and was educated at St John’s College in Johannesburg. After a short stint at University which he decided to halt as he was bored, he went straight into business, rising quickly through the ranks of all the organisations he worked for, culminating in a seven year directorship on the board of a national records management company.
In 2009, Aubrey took the brave step of moving out of the corporate world, as he felt it was changing him for the worse and he chose to start a retail business in his home town of Mamelodi. He also got involved in his father’s business which deals with property development and the provision of low cost housing.
Aubrey lectures on entry level management at various tertiary institutions and facilitates workshops on a range of topics including deep democracy and current affairs. He gives keynote and motivational speeches on various issues such as the disciplines of success.
His media work started with columns that he wrote in The Sowetan, The City Press, The Daily Maverick and Personal Finance. From here he branched out into radio, with his overnight show on Talk Radio 702 and 567 CapeTalk and has just begun his television career with a weekly current affairs show on TOP TV.
A versatile media personality with a fascination for the dynamics of our country and a flair for communicating this to others, Aubrey is a natural presenter, MC, facilitator, speaker and voice over artist.
